Mr. Nelson Chidakwa stayed in the hospital for a period of 7 days for the pre-treatment and the procedure. The preparation for the treatment began with a number of mandatory tests and some that are recommended prior to any kidney transplant procedure. These reconfirmed Mr. Chidakwa’s candidature for the surgery and some of these evaluated his Medical and surgical history and involved Physical exam, Psychosocial exam, and Compatibility tests: Blood typing, Tissue typing, Crossmatching. Some more elective tests which were performed are Blood tests, Chest X-ray, Echocardiogram, Electrocardiogram, Cardiac stress test, Cancer screening, and Colonoscopy, etc. His brother also was checked for his health parameters. All this ensured that the kidney transplant procedure happened with efficiency and the new donor kidney was accepted well in the body of Mr. Nelson Chidakwa.
General anesthesia was given to the patient before the procedure began. Kidney transplant surgery went on for a period of two to three hours. The patient was advised to not eat or drink anything, not even water after midnight prior to the renal transplant procedure.
The kidney transplant post-treatment recovery period post the procedure was 4-5 days as a hospital stay. The patient spent his time in the hospital in a specialized transplant care area.
The patient stayed in India for 30 days, which included the post-treatment recovery period and the treatment time period. This was advised by the consulting and treating doctors to Mr. Chidakwa. MediGence helped organize the entire travel, treatment, and stay for the patient and his brother.
Post the treatment, the doctors also suggested a series of do’s and don’ts to the patient and his attendant. This also meant some follow-up consultations which were also managed by MediGence. The surgery was done seamlessly and was a complete success without any complications for the patient as well as the donor (patient’s brother).
