Describing 2020 as a challenging year for home health agencies is an understatement. With the transition to the patient-driven groupings model and then a pandemic, this industry has experienced some of the biggest changes in decades.
After initially purchasing a 40% stake in Kindred at Home for $2.4 billion in 2018, Humana is now fully acquiring the home health and hospice provider for an additional $5.7 billion. The provider will transition to Humana’s payer-agnostic healthcare services brand CenterWell.
The days of the primary care provider (PCP) acting as a gatekeeper to care for Millennials are gone. Some 85% of previous generations elected a PCP, while 45% of 18 to 29-year-olds and 28% of 30 to 49 year-olds have no primary care provider
